Rebreather Technology

These heavily annotated pages of FM-14 detail the care and operation of the scrubbing components in the Man Portable Tank (MPT) rebreather. Liquid oxygen (LOx) is fed to the user through a closed loop and moderated by hand with a flow rate adjuster. Exhaled gases pass through a zeolite molecular sieve, a simple mineral scrubber that selectively captures CO2 while allowing O2 to continue on through the circuit. As the user only absorbs 5% of inhaled oxygen with each breath, unused oxygen is retained and reused by the system.
